About Us
In February 2003, a group of Batavia and area citizens came together to help support the plan for the removal of the North Batavia dam; to provide information and environmental resources about the reasons why this is a positive ecological action for the Fox River and our community; and to work toward additional efforts and actions to create a healthy ecological system along the Fox River.

As we await funding from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to complete the North Batavia dam removal that was approved by the Batavia City Council, Batavians For A Healthy River continues as a grassroots organization. Our all volunteer group works on stewardship of our watershed through cleanups, restoration, and education.
Batavians For A Healthy River has a four-fold mission:

To inspire a conservation ethic in Batavia, Illinois;
To work cooperatively with others to monitor and make improvements to the health of the Fox River
   watershed in Batavia;
To improve water quality in the Fox River by reducing point and non-point sources of pollution in Batavia;
To inform citizens of and respond to concerns about the negative impacts of dams and other man-made encroachments in the Fox River and its tributaries.
